"The Poetry of the Earth is never dead"-John Keats
Nature can mean many different things to different people but I have always thought of nature as something foreign and removed from myself. It is both beautiful and uncontrollable. Yes there are some ways that people have learned to control nature, but it only takes one big storm or drought to remind us that we are subject to nature, just as nature is subject to us.
The place I have always enjoyed nature the most is the beach. Its beauty is so undeniable. Watching the sun setting over the ocean with the sand in your toes is about as close to heaven as we can get. I have always loved how standing on the beach can make you feel so small in comparison with the vastness of our world.
One of my favorite memories of nature is going and climbing the trees in my grandparents backyard with my cousins as a child. We would run the the very back of their land to climb the trees far away from any adults. I can remember there was always a great sense of freedom up in those trees.
Another of my favorite memories of nature is the vibrant fields of lavender and flax outside of Paris. Watching the sun rise over the alternating fields and seeing the contrast of bright purple and green was with out doubt one of the most beautiful things I have ever seen.
This past year I got the opportunity to work for a florist and help make the flower arrangements for the Kentucky Derby. There is nothing like seeing an entire ballroom completely filled with thousands and thousands of flowers. It is utterly breathtaking to see so much beauty crammed into one room. Even though these tiny little pieces of "nature" had been brought into the artificial world that humans have created they still shouted the beauty of nature.
